Let's Sanitise Support We C U Community Project
What started as a community project by ex beauty-editor for The Sun, Lauren Ezekiel, We C U has manifested into a nationwide campaign to bring a little joy to all those on the Frontline.
"As an ex-beauty editor, I wasn't sure how much help I could be when the coronavirus pandemic started to hit – most people don't need lipstick in an emergency".
Lauren cut her trade at The Sun's much-loved lifestyle magazine, Fabulous. A magazine covering the latest celebrity news, fashion and beauty tips from leading brands and new emerging ones.
"Whenever I used to request a lip balm or face cream to review for work, 50 would turn up at my desk and I know big brands have in-date, unopened products literally lying around. That’s when I realised I could really do something to help".
When the lockdown measures were introduced, Lauren, like many of us, was left feeling helpless at home, wondering what she can do to support the NHS. She came across posts online from doctors and nurses saying how they were desperately in need of not only gloves and masks, but toiletries, too. Nothing extravagant, just things like shower gel, deodorant and toothpaste, but they were working such long hours there was no time to go home and shower or get supplies. That's when she whipped open her little black book filled with beauty brands to see if they were willing to contribute to the cause. As the entire nation is behind the NHS, it didn't take long for brands to jump on board and donate products for the We C U goody bags.
Fast forward 6 weeks, and now with the Sun backing the campaign to take it nationwide, there's been over a million products gifted to the NHS and social care staff.
We continue to support the We C U initiative by donating warehouse space for the products and a hand sanitiser station for all the volunteers on site working hard to get the goody bags to Frontline workers. Goody bags include products from Palmers, Unilever, Burt Bees, Mitchum, Cetreben, Hawaiian Tropics, Dermalogica, Molten Brown, to name a few.
NHS workers are the people that look after us; we need to show them we care about and value them. To donate, visit the fundraising page here.
